Installing Continua

Start with the step-by-step Mac installation guide. It explains the unsigned first release, Applications folder, macOS first-open warning, licence activation and menu-bar setup.

Before leaving a task running

After one-time setup, Continua is designed to keep monitoring without a daily re-arm. Pause monitoring when you want to stop watching for new interruptions. A successful continuation depends on the expected host, available usage and Mac power state; it is not a guarantee that every interrupted task will resume.

What needs to stay open?

Keep the Mac powered on and awake. The configured ChatGPT Desktop or supported Codex CLI host needs to be running at continuation time. If the exact host closes, Continua waits for that host to return rather than guessing another app, host or conversation. A shut-down Mac cannot resume a task.

Can the screen sleep?

Yes. Display sleep is different from the Mac itself sleeping. If macOS suspends the Mac, continuation waits for the computer to wake and reconcile its state. Continua does not bypass macOS sleep or Codex usage limits.

Can I close my MacBook lid?

Closing the lid normally puts a MacBook to sleep. Leave it open for unattended continuation unless you have deliberately configured a supported clamshell arrangement that keeps the Mac awake. Do not assume a connected charger alone prevents sleep.

What if I close ChatGPT or Codex?

Continua does not switch to a different host or task. If the expected host is unavailable when the genuine quota resets, continuation is deferred until that same configured host can be verified again.

Will monitoring keep my MacBook awake or drain its battery?

Monitoring alone does not prevent normal idle sleep. With Automatic Resume on and AC power available, Continua can temporarily prevent idle system sleep for a detected running Codex task, even before a usage interruption, or a pending continuation. The display may sleep. It releases protection when the task ends, the supported host is unavailable, monitoring is paused, power is unknown or the Mac switches to battery. An open chat and remaining quota do not keep the Mac awake. Running-task protection uses short renewable leases, requires a verified live writer and ends after 15 minutes without execution progress. Closing the lid or choosing Sleep can still suspend work. Power behavior and compatibility remain subject to native release testing; we do not promise uninterrupted execution.

Manage billing / cancel renewal

Manage subscription / Cancel renewal. Billing cancellation is separate from Pause, Deactivate this Mac and uninstalling Continua. The recommended one-time licence costs £18.99 for Continua 1.x and does not expire. An annual subscription costs £12.99 and automatically renews at £12.99/year unless cancelled.

Licence validation and offline use

Both options require an internet connection for first activation and periodic licence checks with Lemon Squeezy. After successful validation, temporary network failures allow up to 14 days of offline grace. After that, reconnect before protecting a new task. A one-time licence has no scheduled expiry or renewal, but still depends on licence validation and supported third-party software. A licence restriction does not interrupt an already protected task.

Refund requests

See the 14-day first-purchase refund policy and request instructions. Mandatory consumer rights remain unaffected.

What does Continua do?

Continua handles genuine Codex usage-limit interruptions: it keeps the intended task and real reset together, waits for that reset, then continues the same task when the expected environment is ready.

Does it work with ChatGPT Desktop?

The real short-quota → reset → one continuation path has been proven on ChatGPT Desktop during development. Public release support will still be limited to the app/Codex versions that pass release QA.

What about Codex CLI?

Interactive CLI support is part of the product direction, but we will not advertise it as a launch guarantee until final real-host acceptance work is complete.

Does it bypass Codex limits?

No. Continua waits for the genuine reset. It does not defeat, extend or circumvent the usage limit.

Does Continua upload my code or prompts?

The intended local resume flow does not require a Continua server to receive your prompts, source code or repository contents. Actual release-build data flows and hosting logs must be verified before paid launch. See Privacy.

Why pay when free automation tools exist?

Free and open-source tools can be a good fit if you want to configure and maintain automation yourself. Continua focuses on a native Mac experience, visible state and diagnostics, exact-task/intended-host safety and updates for supported versions when released.

What if ChatGPT or Codex changes?

Your purchase includes any Continua 1.x updates we release. We aim to maintain supported versions, without promising indefinite maintenance, a fixed update schedule or compatibility with every future macOS or Codex release. Future major upgrades are optional and separately priced. If Continua cannot verify its environment safely, it should pause new unattended resumes rather than guess. See Updates and compatibility notes.

What is coming next?

Custom Resume Instructions are a possible future addition, not an included purchase entitlement or a promised release date. Support for other coding agents remains exploratory.
